Dear Parents & Carers,

It has been a very  important  week in the school calendar, and before I start talking about individual events that have taken place, I would first like to say how happy and proud I am of everyone who works and studies at Newport.

Teachers and staff have worked extremely hard this week, and in the run up, so  I  thank them for everything they have done.

Children in every  year group, but  especially  Year 6, have had a long and busy  week. I thank all of them for being
sensible, well behaved and for working hard.

Year 6 have been working all week on their SAT’s tests.  This is always a stressful time for children and staff, but I  was pleased to  see and hear everything running smoothly.

This year, Newport  was visited by  an external SAT’s moderator who came along to check that all our systems and procedures were correct.  She  left the school happy and confident that everything continues to work well and shows exemplary practice. I am sure that our results will reflect  all this hard work and dedication, and I look forward to receiving them in the near future.

Next  week continues to  be busy.  It  is the start  of Enterprise Week throughout  the  school, and there are a number of exciting activities taking place.

Years1, 2, 3 and 4 will be working on their enterprise products to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Year 5 will continue to look at  the development and regeneration of Francis Road, and will finish off their projects about  this.  I look forward to seeing their ideas about how to regenerate the local area.

Year 6  are soon to be off on their trip to  Edinburgh.   Over the  coming days they  will be  creating an event or product to raise  funds for this trip.  Hopefully  they will be inspired and create  something that will raise  lots of money for them  to spend while they are away.

This Saturday all of the  children on Shine  will be visiting  the Peacock Theatre in Holborn to  watch a performance  of  ‘Some LIke it  Hip-Hop’.  They will be joined by  12  children from Year 5 who have been chosen by  their class teachers for their excellent work and behaviour.

Parents/carers don’t forget that half term is from the 27th May to 31st May

And finally, thank you to Kiana Myers and her family  for bringing Flopsie the  rabbit into school this week who is settling into his new home in Reception, we hope he enjoys life as a member of Newport School community.
